The toroid shape suggests that the universe may serve a number of purposes.
As a beacon, rather like a lighthouse, it could send pulses out alternately from each side of the toroid. Clearly. the timescale that this would suit would be very different to what we on earth would understand.
As a clock. Perhaps the pulses are actually very strictly working to a timetable and for that reason can be calculated. The pulse of energy would go through the toroid and dissappear as it did so, reaappearing on the other side as a negative image of itself. Expansion into a universe and eventual collapse back through the hole would turn it into positive energy and a universe on the other side of the toroid. Again the timescale would be staggeringly large but you never know.
As part of a process. We know the value of being able to change matter into energy and vice versa. It is a very interesting way to store energy in a small block of matter for later use.
As a method to generate energy. We know that it took a lot of energy in the first place and rules of physics tell us that
As a childs toy. Imagine it, little Tygor's birthday and father Xylaon gives him what looks like a steel football and a ball bearing about the size of a pea. The father tells him that he can put the pea in the hole and it will produce millions of little lights and planets and suns etc which will burn for months and months. Tygor quickliy puts the ball bearing in, sees the start of the light show and then just leaves it in the corner of the room. 'Really father, you know I had expected something a little more relistic than this!'
